“Cleanliness is next to godliness.” – an old proverb...or in other words…“The fear of the LORD is pure (clean), enduring forever.” - Psalm 19:9

“…Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.” Psalm 51:7

For your essential oils (needed to add a dreamy fragrance to your soap), try looking at www.pleasuresoaps.com and www.wfmed.com! The essential oils that I’ve tried so far are Lavender, Cinnamon, and  Eucalyptus, but there are many more available!

Each essential oil has its own aroma therapeutic qualities. Some are safe for pregnant women, and some are not. Please see the short charts below:

Essential Oils that are SAFE DURING PREGNANCY

Bergamot, Chamomile, Cypress (only after 5 months), Eucalyptus, Frankincense, Geranium (only after 3 months), Grapefruit, Lavender, Lemon, Neroli, Patchouli, Petitgrain, Rosewood, Sandalwood, Tangerine, Tea Tree, and Ylang Ylang. Dilute essential oil to very weak when using for pregnant women. No one should apply essential oil directly to their skin.

The website, http://www.areturntoeden.co.uk, says:

THE FOLLOWING ESSENTIAL OILS should be AVOIDED altogether DURING PREGANCY:

Angelica; Aniseed: Basil; Bay; Birch; Bitter Almond; Camphor; Cassia; Caraway; Carrot Seed; Cedarwood; Celery; Chamomile; Clary Sage; Clove; Cinnamon; Comphrey; Cumin; Cypress; Eucalyptus; Fennel; Galbanum; Hyssop; Jasmine; Juniper; Marjoram; Melissa; Mugwart; Mustard; Myrrh; Nutmeg; Origanum; Parsley; Pennyroyal; Peppermint (and during breastfeeding as it could discourage the flow of milk); Rose; Rosemary; Sage; Santolina; Spearmint; Tarragon; Thyme; Wintergreen; Wormwood; Yarrow.

http://www.areturntoeden.co.uk also says, “Some books on essential oils say it is alright to use one particular oil whereas another will say avoid altogether during pregnancy. If in any doubt, do not use any essential oils while pregnant, or you could consult your doctor.”

Also see http://www.areturntoeden.co.uk for the Essential Oils to avoid if you have high blood pressure, low blood pressure, epilepsy, allergies, or highly sensitive skin.]

The point is, there are natural essential oils that are fine to use during pregnancy or with other health issues. You just have to use the suitable ones and avoid the others. Just work within your boundaries, and soap-making will be fun and safe.

So give it a try; make your own soaps! Use your own creativity; crafting soaps that are simple or elaborate; but above all, have good, clean fun! ♥

Next Post:  ”ESSENTIAL OIL ADVICE (SOAP-MAKING Part 5)”!

Revelation 7:14

1. Let embedding shapes dry sufficiently (about 4 hours) before pouring clear glycerin around them, or the shapes will melt.

2. Place the rough side of a smaller, fun-shape soap (for embedding) face down into larger soap mold…so that it will become completely covered with Clear Glycerin Soap, which you pour around it. This prevents pretty, embedded shapes from wearing off before the rest of the soap.

3. Add coloring at the end of the melt-down, and essential oil after the soap base is melted and removed from the heat source.

4. Cooling and hardening time can be faster if you put your soaps into the refrigerator, but the freezer kills the essential oil fragrance. The best method: let them air-dry overnight.

5. Reheating and remelting of Clear Soap Base makes it more transparent, and evaporates excess moisture. Repeated heating of coconut oil soap makes it a harder bar.

6. Fixed or carrier oils (almond, aloe vera, vitamin E, etc.) can be added to your soap. First, heat them for a short time before adding them to  solid soap base. Then melt the base with the oil to help them blend better.

7. Do not use food coloring in soap making. It will fade, and it takes a lot of food coloring to color soap.

8. Do not use fresh flowers, only dried & crushed flowers, if desired, but be careful of allergies!

9. Do not allow your clear glycerin soap base to boil. Boiling it causes the clear soap to turn cloudy after drying. The water that you place your tempered-glass measuring cup or bowl of soap in must boil, though.

10. When making layered soap, do  not allow the first layer to harden all of the way before pouring on the next layer. Let it dry only until a thick skin has formed, and then pour on the next layer. This prevents the layers from separating when you use the soap!

11. Soap dyes are available in basic colors and:

To make Black dye: use equal amounts of red, yellow, and blue.

To make Brown: Start with orange dye in your soap. Add red and blue until desired brown color.

VARIATIONS:

1. Embedded soap shapes (smaller soaps that you make ahead of time in fun-shape soap molds) can be placed in regular-sized empty molds, where you add clear (or tinted-clear) glycerin around them.

2. Pour tinted, clear, melted glycerin in to surround and just cover the smaller soap shape. Let harden enough until a thick skin forms. Then pour white or tinted, White Glycerin Soap Base on top.

3. These Embedded Soaps are terrific for festive gift-giving and special occasions! Your friends and family will rave about your creativity and will get to use something natural and healthy! You could even start selling your soaps!!

DIY Homemade Soap (Using Melt & Pour Soap Base) Step-by-Step Instructions

To naturally melt your soap base, use a large, (heat-resistant) tempered glass, measuring cup or  bowl  placed in a saucepan of boiling water. This eliminates use of  harmful microwave ovens.

Purchase soap molds of your choice. I found mine at CybrTrayd on eBay, which has a larger variety than at craft and fabric stores. Here’s a picture of their cherub soap molds, which I’ve used for embedded shapes surrounded by Clear Glycerine Soap Base. They’re lovely for pastel-colored soaps!

- Cherub Soap Mold from CybrTrayd on eBay

SOAP-MAKING INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Cut Clear Glycerin Soap Base into small enough pieces to fit into your tempered glass container.

2. Allow soap base to melt (uncovered) as the glass container sits in the boiling-water-bath in the saucepan. Do not allow soap to boil.

3. After the soap base is melted, add soap dye, either all-natural powdered mica or liquid soap dye. (The ones made with mineral powder colorant suspended in vegetable glycerin are natural. Both these and the mica powders are non-carcinogenic!)  I recommend using only natural dyes, but there are other liquid dyes that aren’t natural. Add enough dye until the soap is the desired shade.

4. After you remove the melted soap from the heat, add 5-10 drops of natural essential oil (using a glass medicine dropper) and work up from there to where you want it. Adding the fragrance when the soap is off of the heat source will help the essential oil keep its fragrance potency. Stir. The fragrance will fill the room! It wears off quite a bit after the soap has hardened, though, so you want to use enough.

5. With pot holders, pour the melted soap base into your soap molds. If you like, you may pour into the mold until just half full; then fill the rest of the way with the opaque, White (or tinted) Glycerin Soap. Or you can have an all-clear bar (made out of Clear Glycerin Soap Base), tinted in a pretty color.

6. Melt the While Glycerin Soap the same way as in Steps 1 – 4. You can leave this soap base white or add dye as desired.

7. Pour White Glycerin Soap Base on top of the Clear Soap Base in the molds, or make soap bars of all White Soap Base.

8. Experiment, and have fun!

9. To unmold your soaps: After the soap has hardened overnight, hold the soap mold upside-down. Apply pressure with your thumbs. Once the vacuum seal breaks, the soap should pop out!

10. Wrap your lovely, homemade soaps in clear plastic wrap.

11. Store all of your soaps in a plastic or glass container to help retain the beautiful fragrance until it’s time to use them.
